Mediterranean Diet

We named Mediterranean diet healthy eating habits to those of the people who have inhabited for thousands of years the Mediterranean Sea basin. There is international consensus among medical and nutrition community regarding these habits reduce the risk of chronic diseases such as heart disease, cancer, obesity and diabetes. The essential features of the traditional Mediterranean diet include abundant consumption of cereals, and dairy products (pasta, bread, rice), legumes, fruits and vegetables, with smaller amounts of fish, poultry, eggs and dairy products, and even less red meat. These foods are usually seasoned with olive oil and wine are served with meals.
